This guy has been hanging out on the zoo property for a while now. I remember hearing radio chatter about a black cat sitting up on the rocks by the bear exhibit back in October. Today he was seen in with the musk ox. All attempts to lure him in have failed thus far. I really hope they can get to him before the really nasty and cold weather begins.

Cold and quiet day at the zoo. The final attendance numbers were just over 1000, and most of that was for the girl scout special event. So a bit busy in the morning, but once the girls left after noon it was very quiet.

There's a new Matschie's tree kangaroo. She's black in color instead of the usual chocolatey brown. Interesting.

Some fun news is there will probably be a new exhibit added to the end of the Minnesota Trail. There's that nice open space next to the bald eagle and across from the lynx, and as I hoped they plan to put a black bear there! Ever since the sun bear exhibit closed down I wished that another bear exhibit would pop up somewhere else. It was nice to have a smaller bear to compare with the size of the grizzlies, so yay! :)

Early in the day Steve the bearded dragon scratched up my hand a little bit from his squirmy lizardly ways. At the end of the day I stuck my hand into salt water to pet a shark without thinking twice about it. Can you say ouchie?!

Oh, and on the way home a red tailed hawk dived across the street just feet from the car right at eye level. Seriously, if the timing had been just a little different there would have been a car/raptor collision situation. It was crazy awesome!

I was starting to wondering if he was lying about planning on covering this song. We first heard about it what, 4-5 months ago? Of course he'd finally break it out final day of tewer. I hoped for it to happen at my show sooo bad. Still bummed that I apparently missed hearing a portion of it during soundcheck.

I have a new goal of starting a moshpit during a David Cook show. Okay not really new, I've had it for almost a year now. lol, think the rest of the audience would go for it? Considering who I was surrounded by in Duluth I kinda doubt it. Well, I had a good time headbanging to "Bar-Ba-Sol" even if all the people around me were sitting like statues for the entire show.

I just realized I still haven't written a recap about that whole trip to Duluth. I should probably do that at some point, eh?

The Krim Show needs to exist in real life. HILARIOUS!

I've rewatched this so many times in the past few days. Love Adam's unapologetic attitude and he is absolutely precious here. And he makes a very valid point about double standards in the industry.


It's kinda funny what some people freak out over. In the AI communities people seemed more concerned over his pitchy vocals than anything else that happened onstage. Vocals and the stumble up the stairs. Yes, that ninja roll recovery was pretty epic (the morning show DJs on my local radio station are convinced it was intentional), but I'm still cringing over that part on every rewatch. There was an audible thump when he landed, ouch that had to hurt!

And then there's the whole Good Morning America drama from earlier today which I find somewhat hilarious. I mean, even the Parents Television Council is disagreeing with ABC's decision to cancel his performance! CBS is wringing their hands and cackling evilly from their good fortune of snagging Adam Lambert for The Early Show instead. I bet there will be a huge spike in their ratings tomorrow morning. Judging from the reaction on Twitter (at one point 5 of the 10 Trending Topics were related to this) a ton of people will be tuning in to see what happens.

Oh, and apparently ABC gets more complaints each week about Dancing With The Stars than they received for Adam's AMA performance. Huh, go figure.

So, to sum it up with a macro...

Big thing at the zoo today was the reception/going away party for my day captain Stephanie who's now moving to New Mexico. She's been volunteering at the zoo since a year before it even opened; crazy huh? Mostly just volunteers showed up, but several staff people came as well. Arriving fashionably late was the zoo director Lee Ehmke. I was sitting a few feet from the door, heard it open, looked over my shoulder, and there he was. I then proceeded to flail internally in a "Jamie Foxx is like three feet in front my face right now, I'm freaking out!" sort of way. lol, there's no real reason why I should react that way every time I see Lee around, but when it comes to the zoo he's like "The Dude" ya know?

As a gift there was a copy of the Dr. Seuss book "If I Ran The Zoo," and everyone had written little notes to Stephanie throughout the pages. They handed it off to Lee to sign and he was all "But I thought I already did!" lol I dunno, it was a pretty funny moment in person. And a few of us went a bit "nana nana boo boo" on him because he was outbid in the AZAK art fair on a painting done by the bears, and yet Stephanie was given one as a gift from the keepers. It's a really cool painting; there's a perfect paw print in the paint.

Plus I got to handle the Bearded Dragons today! Steve was a bit squirmy and in full display mode (that beard was a gorgeous black in color), but Irwin was a totally sweetheart just chillin' on my arm. I'll probably do my first public demo with one of them next time I'm in.

And I don't know if I ever mentioned how busy it was last time I volunteered, but as it turns out the attendance that day was 7500. That is a ridiculously high number for this time of year.
